National Protection For Precious Places and Wildlife: Senate Motion June 2013

The Senate

(a) notes that Australia's national environment laws only regulate this country's most environmentally destructive projects which threaten our most precious species and wild places.

(b) calls on the Government to amend our national environment laws before this parliament rises to ensure these responsibilities cannot be handed to state or territory governments.

National Parks Motion

That the Senate calls on the Minister for Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (Mr Burke) to act on his promise of August 2011 to protect national parks under federal environment laws by listing them as matters of national environmental significance to protect them from the threats of logging, grazing, mining or large scale land clearing.

The motion was agreed to by the Senate.
