Climate warning: PM Abbott leads Australia down a withering garden path

Greens leader Christine Milne says dire projections for Australia in the new CSIRO climate change report must be a wake-up call for the Abbott government and big business, which are harming people and missing huge economic opportunities by refusing to minimise global warming.

"If the natural world is in trouble, then so are we, and the Abbott government's climate denial and policy destruction has got us in serious trouble indeed," said Senator Milne.

Newman Government cooks planet and ruins Reef for overseas mining profits

Adani's Carmichael mega coal mine, just approved by the Queensland Government, should be refused by federal Minister Hunt for climate, environmental and economic reasons, say the Australian Greens.

The Australian Greens are calling on the Queensland Environment Minister to put the climate ahead of Gina Rinehart and GVK's Alpha coal mine after the Land Court's decision today.

"Despite finding the mine will have real and "of concern" climate impacts, the court's decision proves that it's high time we change our environmental laws so that this kind of climate destruction cannot be given the green light," Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens mining spokesperson, said.

Uranium mining all risk, no benefit for Queensland

Lifting the ban on uranium mining in Queensland is the latest broken promise by Premier Newman and is another blow in the Queensland Government’s attack on the environment, the Australian Greens said today.

“Throwing open Queensland to uranium mining again is a toxic, dangerous and completely unnecessary step for the sunshine state,” Australian Greens Senator for Queensland, Larissa Waters, said.

“It is environmentally and economically risky, and adds insult to injury after the Premier has slashed large and small scale solar power programs across the state.
