The NSW Senate race is key to Abbott's ambition to take an axe to the environment, according to former Greens leader Bob Brown, Greens Senator Larissa Waters and Greens lead NSW Senate candidate Cate Faehrmann.

"The final Senate spot here in NSW is now well and truly a contest between The Greens, and the Shooters or Pauline Hanson," said Greens lead NSW Senate candidate Cate Faehrmann.

"Here in NSW we've seen the Coalition Government team up with the Shooters to threaten our national parks with shooting and leave rural land and water unprotected from coal seam gas.

Newman Government’s cuts to koala habitat protection driving need for recovery funding

Campbell Newman’s plans to fund koala recovery announced today are needed even more after his government removed the legal protections for koala habitat in the South East corner, where they are at risk of extinction.

“After ditching the koala protections under our town planning laws, it’s no wonder there is more need for koala rehabilitation,” Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens environment spokesperson, said.

Greens to fund threatened species research, habitat protection and wildlife carers in Tasmania.

Today, at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton, the Australian Greens announced a costed plan to fund threatened species research, habitat protection and support wildlife carers in Tasmania.

"Across Australia, we're facing an extinction crisis - with more than 20 per cent of our mammal species threatened with extinction," Tasmanian Senator Peter Whish-Wilson said.

The Australian Greens today launched their national plan for no new coal seam gas, shale or tight gas mining in Yarragon in support of the community's campaign to become CSG free.

"The Greens are the only major party supporting communities like Yarragon, who are banding together to say no to risky, dirty coal seam gas," Queensland Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens mining spokesperson, said.

Greens welcome ACF, WWF and AMCS environment endorsement

The Australian Greens welcome the Australian Conservation Foundation’s acknowledgement today that the Greens have the strongest set of policies on protecting the natural environment.

“We welcome this recognition of our strong environment policies from the Australian Conservation Foundation, which follows endorsement by WWF and the Australian Marine Conservation Society for our Great Barrier Reef policy,” Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens environment spokesperson, said.
