Queensland’s staggering pokies losses show urgent need for political donation ban

Queensland Greens Senator and spokesperson for gambling, Larissa Waters, said reports today that Queenslanders lost on average, a record-breaking $7 million a day in August 2018, shows the urgent need to ban political donations by the gambling industry.

“While the greedy gambling industry sits in the back pocket of the major political parties there will never be any real action to keep the community safe from predatory pokies,” Senator Waters said.

“There must be urgent action to curb these enormous losses and harm caused by poker machines.

News that Caesars Entertainment who own more than 50 casinos across the world including Caesars Palace in Las Vegas has held talks with the backers of the proposed Spit mega-casino spit provoked a bewildering response from our Premier say the Australian Greens. 

"Annastacia Palaszczuk says she doesn’t want the Gold Coast to become a “casino city”," says Deputy Leader and spokesperson for gambling, Larissa Waters.

Pokie con-job lawsuit implicates every poker machine in Queensland

The Australian Greens today welcomed the lawsuit from the Alliance for Gambling Reform lodged in Melbourne today and called for a halt to the Palaszczuk government’s casino obsession.  The expanded scope of the lawsuit for misleading and deceptive conduct puts every single poker machine in Queensland under suspicion.
