Gutting CSIRO climate science is the enemy of innovation

News that the Turnbull Liberal Government is sacking more CSIRO scientists, gutting climate science in Australia, shows what a climate-denialist government this is.  

Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, Senator Larissa Waters said: "Turnbull's mass sacking of climate scientists is the enemy of innovation."

"The Prime Minister's speech in Paris about tackling global warming with innovation was all empty rhetoric - he is keeping Abbott's climate policies and letting the Coalition climate dinosaurs rule."

Qld Labor approves Southern Hemisphere’s largest coal mine to cook the Reef and the planet

The Queensland Labor Government's approval of the Adani Carmichael mine is a climate pollution disaster, which threatens our Great Barrier Reef and groundwater, and delays genuine job creation.

Qld Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, said:  

"It is unbelievable in this age of global warming that any government would give environmental approval for a new coal mine, let alone the largest coal mine in the Southern Hemisphere run by an overseas company with a history of environmental destruction.

Greens Senate Inquiry into the exposure of Australians’ investments to the carbon bubble

The Australian Greens have today established a Senate Inquiry into how transparently companies report their investments in fossil fuels and thus their exposure to the carbon bubble.

Australian Greens Deputy Leader and Climate Change Spokesperson Senator Larissa Waters said, "Australians need to know where their money is invested."

"Companies make it hard work to find out whether your superannuation and savings are helping to address global warming, or are actually making the problem worse.

Turnbull Government repeats Abbott’s trick in gutting the board of the Renewable Energy Agency

The Liberal Government is trying to stifle the independence of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency by neglecting to appoint new board members leaving the Environment Department Secretary as the only director, who has quorum.  

"The Turnbull Government is repeating Tony Abbott's old tricks," Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, said.

"This one is straight out of Abbott's playbook - he did exactly the same thing in 2014.

Greens call on Labor not water down its moderate climate ambition

The Australian Greens are concerned Labor is using consultations with business as an excuse to water down its climate pollution reduction targets.

Hunt backs Abbot (Point)

The Australian Greens condemn Minister Hunt's approval of the Queensland Labor Government's plan for a massive coal port in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area at Abbot Point.

"Minister Hunt's dangerous decision is bad news for our Reef, jobs and the climate," Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens climate change spokesperson, said.

"The damage ticked off on today includes dredging 1.1 million cubic metres of the Reef floor which will mobilise about 10,000 tonnes of fine sediment, smothering seagrass habitat for dugongs and turtles.

Company logos don’t belong on our Great Barrier Reef

The Australian Greens condemn the Liberal Government's plan to allow companies to brand the Great Barrier Reef.

Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens climate change spokesperson, said: "What's next, naming rights, like for football stadiums?

"While private donations for Reef protection are welcome they shouldn't be in exchange for advertising rights and they must be on top of adequate public funding, not in place of it.
