Climate targets so bad the Government claims they’re being met as pollution increases

The national emissions figures released today show the Turnbull Government’s climate pollution reduction targets are so bad that the government is claiming they are being met even though climate pollution is up.

Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens climate change spokesperson, said:

Greens call on Shorten to announce increase to draft climate targets at Press Club

The Australian Greens are calling on Bill Shorten to announce science-based climate pollution reduction targets in his National Press Club address tomorrow.

"Labor must not use the Turnbull Government's woefully inadequate targets, set by Tony Abbott, as an excuse to be mediocre," Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens climate change spokesperson, said.

"Labor's current draft targets provide only a moderate level of ambition and they must be increased in line with the science.

Liberals’ support for climate sceptic motion is anti-science and anti-jobs

The motion adopted by the NSW Liberals calling on the Turnbull Government to arrange public debates on whether climate change is real shows how out of touch the party is with science and the community.

Government concern for coral bleaching insincere unless Adani mine stopped

With coral bleaching already confirmed in the Great Barrier Reef today and scientific concern for a mass bleaching event soon, the state and federal governments must overturn their approvals for the Adani coal mine.  

"The science is clear - it's coal or the Reef," Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens climate change spokesperson, said.

"Crying crocodile tears about coral bleaching while sending more and more coal ships out through the Reef is hypocritical.

The Climate Council's report today shows CSIRO climate science, which faces cuts presided over by the Liberal Turnbull Government, helps firefighters, farmers, businesses and governments make important decisions.

Greens' plan to cover Council roofs with solar panels and cut Council power bills

Council can cut its power bills and save ratepayers money under a Greens' plan, announced today, to allow solar companies to install solar panels on Council buildings and infrastructure.

Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, Qld Senator Larissa Waters, who will discuss the plan at the Solar Citizens Political Forum at 11:30 am QUT Gardens Point today (details below), said: 

"Council can offer up the roofs of its libraries, swimming pool buildings and bus depots, in exchange for cheaper power bills.
