The Senate notes: a) The Environment Minister Tony Burke’s intention to transfer responsibility for protecting our nationally threatened species and wilderness places to state governments by March 2013. b) That Western Australian Premier Colin Barnett is ready to sacrifice James Price Point for a gas hub.
That the Senate take note of the answer given by the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy (Senator Conroy) to a question without notice asked by Senator Waters today relating to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and dumped dredge spoil.
It's already clear the Greens will be the real opposition party in this parliament.
Last week, we saw the Liberals and Labor side together to oppose an increase to Newstart, support the Adani coal mine and pass billions in tax cuts for people on the highest incomes.
