Looking after our coal communities during the transition away from fossil fuels is a top priority for the Greens.
Our Just Transition plan will create permanent jobs for workers, their children and grandchildren.
This means a planned move to renewables that will create 180,000 new jobs, the establishment of a $1b fund to support workers, and free undergrad uni and TAFE for any retraining needs.
Here’s how we see it happening: https://greens.org.au/platform/renewables#repower.
We’ll keep pushing the other parties in parliament to adopt an approach that manages the inevitable transition, and consults with and looks after communities as the world economy changes.
People matter, and the planet matters. Multinational corporate profits have trumped them both for far too long.
This is exactly why my private members bill to axe the pollies’ pension is needed. Newstart hasn’t lifted for 25 years and in Qld alone there are 12,500 kids without homes - what a waste of money to keep paying Tony Abbott now that he’s finally been booted out of parliament 😡
