Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, comments on PWC's Low Carbon Economy Index report, out today:
"This is yet another report showing that the Turnbull Government's current climate policies won't meet its grossly inadequate 2030 pollution target.
"The report finds 'a step change in climate policy' will be required 'in the short term to achieve this goal'.
"The report shows we need to double our historic rate of decarbonisation to reach even the government's woeful target, while in comparison, the EU has been steadily decarbonising for years.
"The Abbott Government's attacks on renewable energy are continuing under Malcolm Turnbull who has made a deal with the Nationals to retain the low 2030 target and not bring back an ETS.
"The Turnbull Government's appointment of a wind commissioner and its continuing plan to abolish ARENA and the CEFC are hampering Australia's potential.
"We're missing out on clean energy jobs because the Turnbull Government is holding us back from this exciting transition that we need to save our environment and very way of life," Senator Waters said.
