Moratorium on coal seam gas

On Tuesday 13th September I introduced a motion (on page 44) calling on the Government to implement an immediate moratorium on any new coal seam gas approvals until the long-term impacts of the industry on our groundwater, agriculture, rural communities, threatened species, the climate and the Great Barrier Reef are known. To my horror, 41 Senators from all parties, including Barnaby Joyce, voted against such a prudent move. Seems the precautionary principle is out of fashion despite it being a legal requirement...  My media releases before and after the motion vote are here and  here.
