Environment Laws Motion - ACT

Motion
Larissa Waters 20 Sep 2012

 Notice of Motion

19 September 2012

I give notice that on the next day of sitting I shall move that -

1.    The Senate notes:
a)    The Environment Minister Tony Burke’s intention to transfer responsibility for protecting our nationally threatened species and wilderness places to state governments by March 2013.
b)    That Australians expect our nationally threatened species and wilderness places to be protected by our national environment minister, including the Australian Capital Territory’s nationally heritage listed Namadgi National Park, which makes up almost 45% of the Territory.

2.    The Senate calls on the federal Government to retain responsibility for making all major decisions on environmentally damaging projects that affect our nationally threatened species and wilderness places.

Senator Larissa Waters
