Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens spokesperson for the environment and the Great Barrier Reef, met with scientists at the Australian Insitute of Marine Sciences in Townsville today to discuss the health and future of the reef.
Of particular concern to Senator Waters was the impact on water quality of Diuron, one of the most toxic herbicides being used in farming up and down the coastline.
The Greens are calling on the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority to ban Diuron, which is adding stress to reefs and marine environments already under threat from climate change.
